Great job, Second Grade, on the Christmas Play!

All Second Grade students need to bring an art gift in by Monday, December 16.This gift needs to be only a $10.00 value and needs to be a good gift for a boy or girl. Anyone in the classroom could end up with the gift at the end of a game that we will do for an exchange. This could be anything from coloring to slime making. Be creative! This class loves to be creative!  If this is a burden on your family, please let me know privately. 

Our Christmas party will be on Thursday, December 19, starting at 1:30. Everyone is welcome to attend, but you do not have to. 

We will get out of school at 12:00 on Friday, December 20! We will not return to school until Monday, January 6!

11/18-11/22

We will not have another Bible test until the play is over.  Students will receive a weekly grade for participation and behavior.  The play is going to be awesome! The Christmas Play is Thursday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. All students are required to be at both performances.  

Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Wednesday, November 20.  Second grade will eat at 10:45.  We will be going to Dairy Queen that same day at 1:00. If parents plan to attend, please let me know. If you are not planning to go to Dairy Queen, please send $5.00 to cover the cost of ice cream.

We are participating in a coat drive. You can donate any size coat that is gently used.  There is a box by the front office.  Thanks so much!  

Scholastic orders are due on Friday, December 6.  If you choose to write a check, please make it payable to NLCA.

Students will be dismissed on Friday, November 22, at noon.  Thanksgiving Break is the following week.  We will return on Monday, December 2.

No School on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veteran's Day.

Don't forget about our Operation Christmas Box project! They are due on Thursday, November 14!

Operation Christmas Child boxes went home on Friday, October 18.  Students are asked to bring everything back by November 14.

We will have Chapel every Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. in the new gym.  Parents are welcome!

Events coming up:
Labor Day-September 2, No School
See You At The Pole- Wednesday, September 25
Grandparent's Day-Friday, September 27
NLCA Literature Fair- Thursday, October 3 (The date changed)-It is not required for students in Second grade.  However, we will be going over all of the parts of the Literature Fair in class.  I encourage all of my students to participate to practice for next year when it is required.  If your child decides to do the fair, please let me know, and I will make adjustments to their Reading homework as they prepare.

Don't forget:

Please do not line up for the pick up line until 2:45 p.m. We will not release pick up students until 2:55 p.m.

Please contact the office if you need to make changes to your child's schedule or any information that you need us to know.  I use Class Dojo quite a bit, but I will not be using it during the school day.

8/26-8/30

Hello everyone! Thank you for making these two days so easy! Here are a few things that you need to know:

We will have Chapel every Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. in the new gym.  Parents are welcome!

Our first Spelling list will go home on Wednesday, August 28, and we will have our first test on Wednesday, September 4.

Thursday, August 29, is picture day.  Everyone will have their individual pictures taken, and we will also have a class picture taken!

We will have our first Bible test on Friday, August 30.  Students need to know only 1 Cor. 13:4.

Our class field trip for all second graders and families is Tuesday, May 21, to The Pottery Place. If you have not paid for your child's painting ($8.00), please send it in by Monday.  If you are not attending the trip, please send and extra $5.00 for lunch.

5/6-5/10

I am so proud of my Second Graders! They did an incredible job today! Thank you for blessing me with them!

Second grade will not do achievement tests this year; however, we will be encouraging the other students next Tuesday, May 7-Thursday, May 9, by participating in some theme days. A note was sent home on Friday to tell about each day. 

Our Spelling test on List 31 will be on Wednesday, May 8.

Thursday, May 9, is the talent show at 12:45.  If your child is participating, their from must be turned in by Tuesday, May 6.

Our class field trip for all second graders and families is Tuesday, May 21, to Babcock. Please let me know how many people from each family is coming.  If each family can donate $8.00, that should cover the cost of our food and drinks for the day.  Please send that in by Friday, May 17.

4/15-4/18

LAST WEEK BEFORE SPRING BREAK!!!!
  • Tuesday, April 16- We are going to the recycling center in Beckley.  Parents do not need to attend this trip.  Pizza will be provided for lunch. We are taking the vans with Third grade.
  • Thursday, April 18- We will have our Easter Party starting at 1:00 p.m.
  • Friday, April 19, to Sunday, April 28- Spring Break!
  • Friday, May 3- Second Grade will be doing a "Pastries for Parents" breakfast. This is for Second grade parents only.  It will start at 8:10 a.m. and be over by 9:00 a.m. Students will return to class.  I sent an invitation home. All invitations need to be back by Thursday, April 18. Message me if you have any questions!
  • Tuesday, May 21-  Last, but not least, we are going to Babcock State Park for our end of the year field trip.  We will be taking a hike in the morning, doing hotdogs and s'mores over the fire for lunch, and playing at the park in the afternoon.  We would love for parents to join us for our end of the year celebration. Please let me know if you plan to attend.
Please return pictures or payments for spring pictures as soon as possible.

We are quickly moving toward the end of the year.  Here are a few dates that you can plan for:

We have set a goal for Spelling!  Our goal: Every student will  make a 100% on our practice Spelling test.  If so, I will buy our class pizza for lunch! Please encourage your child to study!

Second grade set a goal for everyone to make a 100% on a practice Spelling test at least one time this year! Please help us meet our goal and encourage your kiddos to study for Spelling at home.  Don't forget if your child writes the Spelling list at home, they can earn bonus points.  The list must be spelled correctly, have their name on their paper, and be signed by a parent!

3/11-3/15

I am hoping and praying everyone is feeling better!  Here are a few things happening this week!
 
No Spelling test this week! If you missed last week's (List 22), you can make it up on Tuesday!
 
Wednesday, March 13, is Spring Picture Day!  We will also be visiting the public library!  We will have pizza for lunch when we return. 
 
Bible test (Matthew 5:14-15) on Thursday, March 14. 
 
This week we are reading and writing about pets. I would love for my students to bring a stuffed animal in on Thursday, March 14, and tell about it.  If you would like to practice at home with them, I would like for them to tell its name, where they got it, and why they love it so much.  They may tell any other little fun details about it too.  For instance, if it is a tiger, you could help them look up a fun fact about tigers.
