We are following the directives of the Nicholas County Health Department and the policies and procedures we have put into place to combat Covid-19. If anyone in your immediate household has been exposed to the virus, or has had a Covid-19 test, please refrain from sending your children to school until a negative test result is received. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

We have a schedule change in our school calendar. We will NOT have an early dismissal on Wednesday, October 21, but we will NOT have school at all on Friday, October 23.

All books will come home on Fridays until further notice just in case we go to virtual learning. If we are able to come back to school on Monday, please return all books and the bag they come home in. Please do not take anything out of the bag or books unless you are assigned to.

We will not have a Student of the Week this week due to a short week!

Second Grade Discipline Policy

We have a discipline chart that the students will climb if the correct behavior is being followed or recline if the incorrect behavior is being displayed. Students will chart their color everyday on a calendar that stays in their take home folder. Our classroom rules follows 1 Cor. 13:4-8.

Homework Policy

In second grade homework is typically limited to Reading, Spelling, and Bible. However if classwork is not completed by the end of the day, it must be completed at home for homework. It is important for students to practice math facts occasionally. Also, if a child chooses incorrect classroom behavior and fails to complete assigned work during class, these pages may also be sent home for completion and must be returned the next school day.

In Reading, students will be expected to read 3 nights a week and fill out a Reading log. There may be an occasional homework quiz given in class to test on comprehension.

In spelling, a new list of words is assigned every Wednesday. Students will practice the words in class on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday however, the parent(s) and student may decide upon their own method for studying words at home to better prepare for weekly tests. A pre-test is given on Tuesdays. Spelling tests are given on Wednesdays. Students may complete bonus work to be counted toward their test. Only 5 bonus points will be counted toward each test. **If a test is missed on Wednesday, due to an absence or snow day, it will be given the next day students are in school.

In the event a student fails to return his or her homework to school the following measures may be taken:

1. Complete the assignment during recess

2. Complete the assignment during an extracurricular class

3. Complete the assignment in class, but with additional work given (Example: write spelling words two times instead of one)

4. A parent/teacher conference

5. After school detention (extreme circumstance)

Attendance policy:

Please refer to page 6 and 7 of the Student Handbook. Also, students will be counted absent if they leave before 1:30 p.m. and tardy if they leave after 1:30 p.m.
