Almost there!

Wednesday: Fat Eddies! We will leave at 12:30 from school. If you are not going, please send money with your child to cover their ice cream. Students will be dismissed from there if parents attend. Please send in permission slips ASAP.

Friday-Awards Day for 1st - 6th grades at 8:00 a.m. Students will be dismissed as soon as awards are given out!

Holy Smokes! 2 WEEKS LEFT!!!

Our field trip to Valley Worlds of Fun is Friday, May 12. We will not meet at school first. Everyone will meet there at 10:00 a.m. It's going to be fun!

Our last Spelling Test will be on Wednesday, May 10. Please do not wait until the last minute to study. This is a difficult list.

Wednesday-Spelling

Thursday-Bible (John 14:5-6)

I had said that we would have one more Bible test the following week, but I am cancelling the Bible test for Tuesday, May 16. Next Thursday, May 10, will be our final Bible test.

Second Grade Discipline Policy

We have a discipline chart that the students will climb if the correct behavior is being followed or recline if the incorrect behavior is being displayed. Students will chart their color everyday on a calendar that stays in their take home folder. Our classroom rules follows 1 Cor. 13:4-8.

Homework Policy

In second grade homework is typically limited to Reading, Spelling, and Bible. However if classwork is not completed by the end of the day, it must be completed at home for homework. It is important for students to practice math facts occasionally. Also, if a child chooses incorrect classroom behavior and fails to complete assigned work during class, these pages may also be sent home for completion and must be returned the next school day.

In Reading, students will be expected to read 3 nights a week and fill out a Reading log. There may be an occasional homework quiz given in class to test on comprehension.

In spelling, a new list of words is assigned every Wednesday. Students will practice the words in class on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday however, the parent(s) and student may decide upon their own method for studying words at home to better prepare for weekly tests. A pre-test is given on Tuesdays. Spelling tests are given on Wednesdays. Students may complete bonus work to be counted toward their test. Only 5 bonus points will be counted toward each test. **If a test is missed on Wednesday, due to an absence or snow day, it will be given the next day students are in school.

In the event a student fails to return his or her homework to school the following measures may be taken:

1. Complete the assignment during recess

2. Complete the assignment during an extracurricular class

3. Complete the assignment in class, but with additional work given (Example: write spelling words two times instead of one)

4. A parent/teacher conference

5. After school detention (extreme circumstance)

Attendance policy:

Please refer to page 6 and 7 of the Student Handbook. Also, students will be counted absent if they leave before 1:30 p.m. and tardy if they leave after 1:30 p.m.
