Hello Second Grade!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! 

We will not have a Spelling test or Bible test this week!  The next Spelling test will be Wednesday, January 9 and the next Bible test will be Thursday, January 10. I will send the new Bible verses home on Wednesday, January 2 when we return to school!

Wednesday, December 12 - D.E.A.R Day. Christmas is the theme!

Our Library Day is Thursday! Please make sure students bring library books with them on Thursdays!  I have decided that we will not have a spelling test on the list of words that was sent home (List 14).  I would like for the children to keep practicing them though and become familiar with them.  If the students write a complete sentence for each spelling word and turn it in to me by Wednesday, December 12.  I will count it as 5 bonus points toward their Phonics test this week.  


Our next Bible test will be on Thursday, December 20! I will send it home on Monday.  It will only be one verse!

I would like to add to our reward system in our classroom:  We have students in our classroom that rarely get in trouble at all, and I feel that this behavior needs to be rewarded!   Starting Monday, each child will get 5 movie tickets per week (1 per day) for a month.  If a child receives more than 4 blocks a day, he/she will have to give up their ticket for that day.  At the end, of 4 weeks there will be a reward movie for tickets as follows:
10-11 tickets: Movie
12-15 tickets- Movie and drink
16-17 tickets- Movie, drink, and popcorn
18-20 tickets-Movie, drink, popcorn, and a small prize

We have raised the standards for our behavior charts!  If a student is talking out of turn and/ or disrupting class, it is now two blocks rather than one.  This is a problem in our class that we really need to work on.  We have already been working on this for a couple of days.  Also starting this week, if your child has more than four blocks filled in on  3 or more days, they will not get in the treasure box on Friday.    

Our class will be leading chapel on September 27.  We will lead pledges and sing a song that day.  The song is called Rainbow.  I would like for the children to wear different colored shirts.

Math Facts:  I would like for students to review Math Facts nightly at home.  Next week we will do Sums of Ten!  The students will have a pumpkin with all sums of 10 on them.  This will help them be able to orally give these sums quicker!

Week of 9/4-9/7

Homework for Reading starts this week!  I will be assigning Reading Homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights.  Please ask your child to find a quiet spot and read the assignment twice by themselves and then once with an adult.

The snacks have been wonderful, but our afternoons are so busy.  Please send small snacks that the children could possibly eat while working on afternoon assignments or within 5 minutes.  This does not include the Friday that your child is Student of the Week.  On that day, they may bring whatever their favorite snack is, and we will make time for it. 

We will have on oral reading test on Tuesday, September 4!
We will  have a Spelling test and our second Phonics test on Wednesday, September 5!
We will have a Bible test on Thursday, September 6!  (Don't forget this week's test has two verses.)
We will have a Writing test on Friday, September 7!

We have had another great week!!

I told the children that they could bring a water bottle to keep at their desk.  Please make sure that the water bottle has a lid, and they may only have water. 

We will be having a Phonics test on Tuesday, August 28.

We will have our next Bible verse test next Thursday, August 30.

We will be having an Arithmetic test on Friday, August 31.

• Just a reminder, please wear gym shoes to school and pack other shoes to change into if necessary.  We go to PE at 8:30 a.m.

• The snack schedule may change depending on surplus of snacks.

• All "All About Me" posters are due on Monday, 8/20/2012.

• a pencil box
• colored pencils
• crayons (24 pack is sufficient)
• glue sticks
• number 2 pencils
• 1 box of gallon size Ziplock Bags
• 1 box of sandwich bags
• 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
• 1 package of wide-ruled notebook paper
• ruler (with inches and cenimeters)
• scissors
• three folders (for homework pages etc...)
• 2 boxes of tissues
