3/24-3/28

Report Cards will go home Monday, March 24!
Our class will be doing 2 baskets for the Silent Auction for the Taste of Summersville this year. Our themes are "Backyard Fun" and "Coffee/Tea".
This Thursday, March 27, will be the last time this month that we take up an offering for Lisa Smith's "Abide" foster home in Nicaragua. This home will provide a family for children that have no family and learn about the love of Jesus. Her website is http://lisasmith.myadventures.org/ if you would like to check it out.
Please remember to check and sign homework sheets on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Also, students should bring behavior charts home on Fridays. Please sign and return them on the following Monday.
I am trying to encourage responsibility in class. Please encourage students to be responsible for their folder, homework, homework sheets, and behavior charts.
Please remember, students can earn up to 5 bonus points for extra credit on their Spelling Test just by writing their words correctly each night and returning them to me with a parent's signature.

Second Grade Discipline Policy

We have a discipline chart that the students will climb if the correct behavior is being followed or recline if the incorrect behavior is being displayed. Students will chart their color everyday on a calendar that stays in their take home folder. Our classroom rules follows 1 Cor. 13:4-8.

Homework Policy

In second grade homework is typically limited to Reading, Spelling, and Bible. However if classwork is not completed by the end of the day, it must be completed at home for homework. It is important for students to practice math facts occasionally. Also, if a child chooses incorrect classroom behavior and fails to complete assigned work during class, these pages may also be sent home for completion and must be returned the next school day.

In Reading, students will be expected to read 3 nights a week and fill out a Reading log. There may be an occasional homework quiz given in class to test on comprehension.

In spelling, a new list of words is assigned every Wednesday. Students will practice the words in class on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday however, the parent(s) and student may decide upon their own method for studying words at home to better prepare for weekly tests. A pre-test is given on Tuesdays. Spelling tests are given on Wednesdays. Students may complete bonus work to be counted toward their test. Only 5 bonus points will be counted toward each test. **If a test is missed on Wednesday, due to an absence or snow day, it will be given the next day students are in school.

In the event a student fails to return his or her homework to school the following measures may be taken:

1. Complete the assignment during recess

2. Complete the assignment during an extracurricular class

3. Complete the assignment in class, but with additional work given (Example: write spelling words two times instead of one)

4. A parent/teacher conference

5. After school detention (extreme circumstance)

Attendance policy:

Please refer to page 6 and 7 of the Student Handbook. Also, students will be counted absent if they leave before 1:30 p.m. and tardy if they leave after 1:30 p.m.
